Mediterranean style garden, let’s discover it!

Mediterranean style garden on the blog by

Today’s post is about the Mediterranean style garden, a suggestive garden that immediately recalls Italy and, in general, all the countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. We will discover what are the main characteristics of a Mediterranean style garden and why it is so special. Do you want to know more? Just keep reading!

A garden full of colours and fragrances

The plants of a Mediterranean style garden do love very hot summers and mild winters (that is the Mediterranean climate). Some of the most common plants of a Mediterranean garden are the juniper, the rosemary, the myrtle, the laurel, the thyme, and the sage. The Mediterranean style garden is full of colours, but also fragrances. Unlike other types of gardens, which are characterized by symmetry and well-defined shapes, in this kind of garden plants can grow free, and this gives the green space a very natural aspect. The Mediterranean garden is not the ideal garden if you live in a place with harsh winters, because the plants will suffer if temperature goes below zero.

Mediterranean style garden: a lot of shade

A Mediterranean garden embellishes your house while creating a nice green corner where you can relax even in the hottest hours of the day. As a matter of fact, plants like the mulberry and the linden will give you plenty of shade during the hot summer. Thanks to their dense foliage, these plants create nice corners where to relax during scorching hot summers and enjoy all the beauty of the garden. The Mediterranean style garden is the ideal choice if you want a welcoming garden that requires little maintenance. As a matter of fact, there’s no need to water the plants of a Mediterranean garden so often, as they are accustomed to high temperatures.

Pruning garden plants, what you need to know

Pruning garden plants on the blog by

Pruning garden plants is a very important activity that you need to carry out each year. Pruning is fundamental if you want your plants to grow strong, lush, and healthy. As a matter of fact, pruning practices remove dead or damaged branches, give plants a specific shape and stimulate fruit and flower growth. Pruning is a delicate activity and you have to take it seriously: if you are not an expert gardener you run the risk of causing serious damage to your plants.

Pruning garden plants is important

It is important to start pruning your plants when they are young. This will train them to grow exactly as you want and will make them stronger. When pruning young plants, remove dead or crossing branches that could become a problem as the plants grow. If you train young plants properly, they will grow strong and healthy and they will require lower maintenance. You can prune plants to improve their appearance by giving them a specific shape. This will require regular pruning because you will have to train the plant to grow into a specific shape and size. To do so, remove unwanted branches or branches that are not growing according to the shape you want to achieve. If you don’t train the plants like that, they will grow out of shape and later it will be more difficult to prune them. Regular pruning is fundamental if you want to avoid uncontrolled plant growth. As a matter of fact, if you don’t prune your plants, they will grow into adjacent buildings, sidewalks, power lines and interfere with street lights.

Choose an expert company!

Pruning is a very important activity that you should carry out on a regular basis. As pruning garden plants is not an easy task, you should consider hiring an expert company. Atelier Dimensione Verde offers professional maintenance services for gardens and parks, both private and public. Have a look at our website!

Nature is the main character

As you can see in the pictures, our landscape architects created a beautiful garden and a park for the hotel, two unique gems that give the space new hues and fragrances. Our garden planning experts studied the landscape in order to embellish it with the appropriate garden. One of the main features of the project is the marvellous pergola with roses, which introduces the guests into the olive tree park. The garden is awesome, too. There is a nice stone walkway that leads to a green area with wooden benches, where guests can relax and enjoy nature among wonderful flowerbeds and hedges.

The sensory garden: a green space for the five senses

The sensory garden on the blog by

Generally, when we think about a garden, we think about all the colours and hues created by the combination of different plants and flowers. A beautiful garden is indeed a pleasure for the eyes, and chromatic combinations can give emotions that are hard to express. However, if you think about it for a moment, you will realize that walking in a garden is a multi sensory experience that involves not only sight, but also touch, hearing, taste and smell. If it’s true that sight is the most stimulated sense, it is also true that we can touch the leaves of the plants, we can hear the rustle caused by the wind, we can smell the scent of flowers or taste fruits. The sensory garden is designed to give visitors a unique experience that involves sight and all the other senses and that will help them re-establish a contact with nature.

A multi sensory path

The sensory garden can stimulate all the five senses and can help psychophysical well-being. It is not a case if it is used as a therapy for people with disabilities or patients with Alzheimer. A sensory garden needs careful planning and everything has to be in its right place. Plants and flowers are selected and arranged in order to create a path for the five senses. There are, for example, many combinations of flowers of different colours, which are fundamental for chromotherapy. The sensory garden is full of fragrant flowers and plants that help stimulate smell, reawakening emotions, sensations and positive thoughts.

The sensory garden: rediscover the contact with nature!

Sensory gardens are green spaces in which you can relax, meditate, and rediscover the contact with nature, a contact that we are losing more and more. If you want to try a unique multi sensory experience, plan a visit to a sensory garden near you!

Rolls of turf, why not!

Rolls of turf on the blog by

Rolls of turf are a practical and quick solution for everyone who wants to have a perfect lawn in their garden in no time, without having to sow grass seeds and wait until the grass grows. Ideal for private gardens, but also for big parks, rolled turf is a great choice with an interesting price/quality ratio. With rolled turf you will be able to save a considerable amount of time and limit the work which is needed to achieve the lawn.

Characteristics of rolled turf

If you are skeptical about using rolls of turf for your garden as an alternative to traditional sowing methods, probably you think we are talking about artificial turf. Rolled turf is natural and is cultivated for a year or more. Only when the grass has reached the ideal height the lawn is cut, rolled up and delivered to the buyer, ready to be laid on the soil. For a homogeneous and regular lawn, you will have to hoe the soil in order to prepare it. This is just a little work if you compare it with traditional sowing. Furthermore, as the grass is already one year old, you can lay it down whenever you want, not only in spring or autumn.

Rolls of turf and maintenance

Once you have laid the turf on your garden, you will just have to wait some days before you can step on the grass. During the first weeks, you will have to water the grass frequently. Then, when the lawn will take roots, you will diminish the frequency. Obviously, you will have to cut the grass regularly, just like you would do with a common lawn. If you want more information about rolls of turf, you can contact us! An expert will be happy to give you all the information you need!
